I am sorry that we have put so much effort into giving you everything we didn’t have, that we’ve neglected to give that which we did have.

We didn’t teach you:

• to take your hat off when indoors
• to use the words sir and ma’am
• that underwear is called “under” for a reason
• to respect adults, whether you agree with them or not
• to hold the door for others
• to say please and thank you
• that yelling at your parents is unacceptable
• that any male can be a man, but it takes a real man to be a gentleman
• that any female can be a woman,  but it takes a classy woman to be a lady
• that in the real world not everybody gets a trophy
• that just because you think you deserve it does not mean that you do
• that the world owes you nothing, so work hard for what you want

I could go on for a while, but I will simply say that we failed you as a society when we gave you everything we didn’t have and forgot to give you everything our parents gave us.
